Collection: Konstantin Ivanovich Gorbatov

Konstantin Ivanovich Gorbatov was a Russian post-impressionist painter born in Stavropol. He studied civil engineering before turning to painting, studying under Nikolay Dubovskoy at the Imperial Academy of Arts. He also studied in Rome and Capri on a scholarship.

After the 1917 Revolution, Gorbatov left Russia in 1922, settling in Capri and later moving to Berlin in 1926. He became part of a Russian émigré artistic circle, but his work became less valued in Nazi Germany, leading to financial hardship. Gorbatov died in 1945, shortly after Germany's defeat.

He bequeathed his works to the Academy of Arts in Leningrad, and they are now displayed at the Moscow Regional Museum of History and Arts.
