Collection: Henri-Edmond Cross
Henri-Edmond Cross (born Henri-Edmond-Joseph Delacroix, 1856) was a French painter known for his role in Neo-Impressionism and his influence on Fauvism. Initially trained by Carolus-Duran, he later studied under François Bonvin and Émile Dupont-Zipcy.
Cross's early works were in the Realist style, but he changed his name in 1881 to distinguish himself from Eugène Delacroix. He began exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Français that same year. After an 1883 trip to the Alpes-Maritimes, he painted landscapes and portraits, including one of Dr. Soins, exhibited in Nice.
By the 1890s, Cross adopted Pointillism, later shifting to broader brushstrokes and exposed canvas, creating works that foreshadowed Fauvism and Cubism.
