Collection: Fishes Of Ceylon

John Whitchurch Bennett (1790–1853) was a British army officer, official, and naturalist. He served in Ceylon from 1815 to 1827, holding various roles, including magistrate of Mahagampattu. Elected a Fellow of the Linnean Society in 1829, Bennett authored A Selection from the Most Remarkable and Interesting Fishes Found on the Coast of Ceylon (1830), which vividly described thirty exotic fish species from the Indian Ocean, capturing their vibrant colors for a British audience.
