Collection: Edwin Lord Weeks
Edwin Lord Weeks (1849–1903) was an American artist known for his Orientalist works. Born in Boston to wealthy spice merchants, he was able to pursue painting and travel. Early on, he sketched in the Florida Keys and Surinam, with his first notable painting, Landscape with Blue Heron, dating to 1871.
In 1872, Weeks moved to Paris to study under Léon Bonnat and Jean-Léon Gérôme. He became renowned for his Orientalist subjects, traveling to South America, Egypt, Persia, Morocco, and India.
Weeks wrote From the Black Sea through Persia and India (1895) and Episodes of Mountaineering (1897). He died in Paris in 1903 and was honored with the Légion d'honneur and other distinctions.
