Collection: David Roberts' Nile Illustration

David Roberts was a Scottish painter and lithographer and one of the foremost landscape artists of his time. In the 1830s, he travelled widely across Egypt and the Middle East, spending eleven months sketching notable sites and creating a series of detailed artworks that captured the region's historical sites and natural beauty. His paintings often showcased iconic landmarks and monumental structures, blending meticulous detail with artistic interpretation. After returning to London in 1839, Roberts created detailed watercolors, which were used by Louis Haghe to produce lithographs. These 85 lithographs, depicting Egyptian scenes, were published between 1848 and 1849.
