Collection: Georges Barbier

George Barbier (1882–1932), a French illustrator, rose to fame after his 1911 debut, specializing in fashion, theatre, and ballet designs. He led a group of artists from the Ecole des Beaux Arts known as "The Knights of the Bracelet," including his cousins Bernard Boutet de Monvel and Pierre Brissaud. Barbier also designed jewelry and contributed to Gazette du bon ton.

In the mid-1920s, he collaborated with Erté on set and costume designs for the Folies Bergère. Barbier gained wider recognition through his regular appearances in L'Illustration magazine and wrote the introduction to Erté’s 1929 exhibition. He died in 1932 at the height of his fame and is buried in Nantes’ Cemetery Miséricorde.
