Collection: Cape Town Flowers

Clemenz Heinrich Wehdemann, a German soldier, artist, and naturalist, arrived in the Cape Colony in 1784, likely as a member of the Württemberg Regiment, serving the Dutch East India Company. The son of a church minister, Wehdemann received a solid education. He developed a keen interest in indigenous trees, creating several sets of annotated paintings, some of which depicted species new to science. Wehdemann's drawings of plants collected at Cape Town (1817-1820). Wehdemann was a German soldier, artist and naturalist in the service of the Dutch East India Company when he arrived in Cape Town.  He was the son of a church minister and who home schooled him and provided him with a good education.
