Collection: Birds of Brazil & Mexico

These beautifully detailed vintage bird images, are from William Swainson's 1840s volume of rich illustrations of bird species native to Brazil and Mexico . Swainson was an English ornithologist, malacologist, conchologist, entomologist and artist. He accompanied the British explorer, Henry Koster, to Brazil in 1806 and returned to England in 1818. A member of various literary societies like the Linnaean Society and the Wernerian Society of Edinburgh, he was elected a member of the Royal Society on 14 December 1820.
